En 1620, van Dyck part pour Londres, puis séjourne en Italie où il étudie les Vénitiens – Titien surtout – dont il retient la touche libre et la lumière dorée.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDe retour en Flandre, il est appelé à la cour d’Angleterre en 1632 par Charles Ier. Nommé « principal painter in Ordinary to Their Majesties », il peint le roi, la reine Henriette Marie, les enfants royaux et toute l’aristocratie anglaise. Son atelier produit des centaines de portraits où chaque détail – la dentelle d’un col, la soie d’une manche, la gravité d’un regard – construit une image de pouvoir et de raffinement.
